The Way

This post was adapted from a letter of new year's well wishes that was originally written to my friends and family. But I thought it fitting as the first post here - the introduction to my new blog space. A new beginning. A fresh start.

During the last week of 2022 I took an early morning walk on the beach. As the sun was rising above the sleeping town of Buffels Bay.

It was a spectacular morning. With the droan of the waves on the beach. A fresh ocean breeze in my hair. The feel of coarse, wet sea sand between my toes. Early morning sunshine on my face. Reflections of yellow and gold on calm, clear water.

There were a handful of early risers on the beach. Sparse, in the distance. During a busy December at the seaside. When the masses descend and everyone's personal space contracts and shrinks. It felt like manna from heaven. Even though I am not a "morning person", the Lord blessed me with one of His masterpieces that day.

It is always during my experiences in nature that I feel closest to Him. Often, as I walk, I pray for a revelation of His truth that I can make apart of myself. Time and again He stays true. That is if my turbulent thoughts, that so often trip me up, don't get the better of me...

As I am walking I start to become aware of hordes of tiny insects jumping around my feet (apparently sand fleas). Despite the incredible sight around me, they repeatedly keep distracting me. And I keep looking at my feet.

After a while I look up at the sun over the horizon again and I hear the Spirit whisper.

"Keep your eyes on Me, so that you will see the bigger picture. I know your way. I know what your destination is."

If you allow the bugs of life to distract you, you will only see that which is at your feet. Your thoughts and emotions. Your shortcomings and disappointments. Your problems and challenges.

Jesus said...“I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6 NLT). The Amplified version says: Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life..."

Keep your eyes on Him. So that you will see the whole picture. The route that you should follow. The landmarks on the way. The natural beauty and spectacular view.

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. (Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 TPT)

May your eyes be focussed on Jesus during the year ahead. May He show you the way and make the truth as clear as daylight. May the sun of God's love and favour shine on you in 2023. And your life be a reflection of the light of Jesus.

It is all about grace. mx
